RenownedMint WordPress Theme

Article published Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at 2:20 pm

RenownedMint is our first free WordPress theme, and marks an era of Renowned Media releasing more free content.

Click here to download RenownedMint from Renowned Media or download RenownedMint from wordpress.org.

RenownedMint is an attractive, minty Web 2.0 theme for your WordPress blog, based on the same color scheme used by our popular product RenownedStats. This theme is released under the GPL License so take it and tear it apart all you want. Currently the theme is version 1.0.1 and we plan on making future updates to the theme to keep it fresh and keep you guys happy.

Installation:

To install RenownedMint, download the file from wordpress.org, and extract it to your the following directory in your wordpress installation:

wordpress-installation/wp-content/themes/renownedmint

Once you’ve got that step covered, go to your wordpress admin panel (usually wordpress-installation/wp-admin), then go to Appearance | Themes and click Activate next to RenownedMint. This will immediately set it as your active wordpress theme.

Features:

  • RenownedMint version 1.0.1 has support for one widget slot (the lower right corner) however future versions will have support for up to three versions (all three of the bottom columns).
  • RenownedMint is a one column layout. These are very uncommon on the WordPress theme directory (currently there are only 8, while two and three column layouts number in the thousands). We chose this for both exposure and for people looking for layout that look less like a blog and more like a website.
  • Pages are displayed at the top of the screen in the form of tabs, which helps the theme make your blog feel more like a website than a blog.

Shortcomings:

  • Hierarchical pages are displayed in a linear method. In future versions we may include a javascript dropdown menu for this.
  • Only supports one widget, in the future we will support up to three.
  • Putting in more pages in the main menu than can be displayed will hide the extra pages (obvious, but thought we would mention).

I love your theme but my website needs to allow nested pages. Any way you could make that happen? KTHNXBYE :D

Hey, really like the theme. Simple and one-column was what I was looking for.

You mentioned the hierarchical pages display linearly. Mine don’t display at all. Parent pages appear in the navigation, but when creating a sub-page, a link to it doesn’t appear anywhere in the theme.

Is this by design? If so, I’ll look to hatch out a way to prevent the parent page option from displaying in the editor.

    Thanks.

    • By design, all sub-pages are hidden (in the CSS). This was done because the navigation is a horizontal line, and a lot of sites have stuff in the top level pages, which end up linking to the lower level pages anyway.

You may be able to easily reverse this using CSS child selectors, but it would be a headache…

If you click the link above your comment, it goes to a WordPress plugin which creates a dropdown menu from your subpages, it might take care of what you’re trying to accomplish.

Yes thanks so much! I haven’t gotten around to installing it yet but thanks for the quick support! :D

I did check out the link. Thanks for the reply, Thomas. :)

Hey, nice theme. I was looking for something clean for a forum page and coupled with the theme per post plugin it looks like this will do the trick.

By the way, the 404.php has an opening h1 tag but closing h2. No biggie but thought I’d point it out.

    Hi!

Is it possible to fix this theme for IE6? Unfortunately, the navigation menu is broken under IE6.

    Thanks!

Is it possible to remove the search bar? Can I also remove the dividers between the three columns in the footer? (although they are very nice looking) I’m pretty sure we’ll only want one column in the footer and would like it to be the third column. Thanks.

why the pages menu only 7 tabs.

  8. Anita says:

Can you modify the colors on the template (background, links, etc.)?

  9. Jenny says:

Is there a way to make more room for the Title text?

    • Yeah, just shrink the search div and increase the heading h1′s width.

      • Jenny says:

Thanks for the reply. I have the Heading expanded over more now, but then the search box and tab go down into the white part. Is there a way to get rid of the search box all together?

  10. Great work, this theme is exactly what I was looking for. The only point for me is the 3 bar widget support, I really need that feature! There is a release date set already for the next update? Thanks and keep the good work!

  11. nice theme. I was looking for something clean for a forum page
