Today, we’ve released RenownedLinks, the same application which runs the popular URL shortening service ezlink.info. RenownedLinks is a shorter URL web application written in PHP and MySQL. With the help of the included PDF manual, you can easily install this on your web host with little knowledge of web servers.
Why would someone want to use this service?
- Small fields have to be used (such as Twitter’s 140 character limit or SMS’s 120 character limit) and long URLs would use up a lot of space.
- You want to hide certain information. For example, a lot of times people have links which contain affiliate information attached to the end like http://themeforest.net?ref=renownedmedia. Using a shorter URL could turn that link into http://ezlink.info/_y which doesn’t give any information about the destination.
- You may be sending visitors from one location to another, and you would prefer to hide the referrer information. By using the /h/ in the url (such as http://ezlink.info/h/_y in our previous example) the domain being linked to (in this case themeforest.net) would not be aware of the website ezlink.info being used to send traffic.
