Free Icons

This post will link you to several websites where you can download free icons. These icons can be easily integrated into any project or application you are developing, whether it be a web application which you would like to redistribute or just setting them as icons for your desktop.

All of the icons we’ll be linking to are in the form of transparent PNG’s, which means if you would like to convert them into any other format you can do so easily, even if it means converting them into a GIF and using a solid background color!

We also have some links to premium icon packs for anyone looking for some higher quality icons at a very low price.

Tango Icon Library

Tango is an attractive set of icons originally intended for the Gnome Linux desktop, however since they are open sourced they have been used in many different applications as well. Available in 16×16, 22×22, 32×32, as well as a scalable SVG format so you can stretch the icons into any dimensions you like without suffering from any loss of quality whatsoever.

FamFamFam

FamFamFam’s icon sets (four in total) are mostly 16×16 pixel art icons. The set below is from their smaller 12×12 pixel icon set. If these icons look familiar, you have likely seen them integrated into thousands of different websites.

Everaldo Crystal Icons

Everaldo’s Crystal icons are a very sexy batch of icons intended to be used in the open source Linux KDE environment. Due to the nature of open source, this means you can integrate the icons into your personal projects as well! These are available in several different sizes, including 16×16, 32×32, all the way up to 256×256!

Here’s a small set of attractive icons intended to be put in toolbars, available at deviantart.
